Jacketed plug valves are usually fitted with the Heating Jacket. Heating jackets are needed where the operation temperature must be maintained through the valve in order to keep the process media. Fully jacketed valves could be Oversize Flanged, Butt Weld type or Wafer Pattern. Jacketed plug valve is kind of valve with conically or cylindrical tapered "plugs" which can be pivoted inside body to regulate flow through the valve. Plug has one or more than one hollow passage-ways going sideways through plug, so that liquid can do motion through plug when valve is open.
When plug is tapered conically, handle or stem is typically attached to the bigger diameter end of plug. This type of valve basically does not have bonnet but usually has the end of plug with the handle exposed or most of the time exposed to the outside area. In such type of conditions, there is generally not much of stem. Handle and stem oftentimes come in one piece.
The very simple and most common types of plug valves are 2-port valves with two positions. First is open to allow flow, and second is shut to stop flow. Ports open in the body of valve through which liquid can leave or enter. This type of valve has only one passageway passing through it. The ports are positioned at opposite ends of the valve body.
